We had this tour with Federico and we were impressed. So many animals, so much nature, it was exciting and simply stunning. We can truly recommend tours guided by Federico. Relaxing and back to the ship on time. (This review has been translated from german)

We were met right outside the cruise terminal and the van was clean and comfortable.
Dani was an excellent guide. Very knowledgeable about all the different animals and plants that we saw on the canal boat as well as the national park. At our request she took us to a local grocery store to purchase coffee and candy.
Canal tour was on a nice boat – Relax Day Tours had much nicer boats than many other companies – hard top canopy to keep rain out and cleaner. Saw monkeys, sloths, lizards and more.
National park was beautiful. You can walk in the jungle one direction and then back along the beach.
We were returned to cruise ship terminal on time.

We arranged our combined tour with Relax DayTours of the Tortuguero National Park and the Cahuita National Park, Costa Rica on line. At Puerto Limon, we were met by Dani our guide and Federico our driver that day, who was the owner. There were just six of us. After driving through Puerto Limon and viewing the oldest house in town and looking back at our ship from a viewpoint, we were soon on our way to the Tortuguero National Park. Here we embarked on a small boat and our captain quietly navigated up the various waterways, stopping often to get close to the bank, where he and Dani would point out the abundant wildlife. The most exciting moment was seeing a sloth, hanging lazily from the branches of a tree near the waterline and we also saw monkeys, egrets, herons, caimen and others. Unfortunately, we didn’t see toucans, iguanas and river turtles as some do sometimes.
We were then driven to a roadside fruit stall, where we ate delicious fresh pineapple and tried cacao, the cocoa bean in its natural form. Dani showed us how coffee was grown and we sampled sugar cane in its raw state.
Then a longish drive to the Cahuita National Park, which is very beautiful, as it runs along a stunning white sand coastline. Dani gave out bottles of water or mango juice, before we walked along with her on an easy going trailwith beautiful tropical trees and shrubs. Besides howler monkeys and white faced monkeys, we saw a green iguana and a racoon raiding a picnic party, as well as various birds. At the end of the trail, Dani left us, giving us half an hour on the beach, to swim if we wanted. To be honest, it just was not enough time to snatch a snack, get changed, swim and get dried. It might have been better to curtail the walk a little, so giving us a longer break on the beach.
On the way back, we stopped at a banana plantation and Dani gave us a very good illustrated talk as to how bananas are grown, how the plant is propogated and how the crop is processed ready for exporting.
Back in Puerto Limon, Dani took us to a supermarket, where some of us bought coffee, cacao and other local products.
In all, a very good tour, taking in two major attractions. With the ships tour, you would have to choose one or the other of these venues each at a cost a little more than this tour. So we would thoroughly recommend a tour with Relax DayTours and both Dani and Federico were good company and gave us much information, not only on the places we visited, but also about the country itself and its people.

We set up the RelaxDay Tour to Cahuita National Park and Tortuguero Canal online. When the day came for our tour we had no difficulty locating our guide, Juan Carlos, just outside the port terminal. The four people in my party were joined by five others in the comfortable van ( I think tours can take up to twelve people), which was driven by Eric. Juan Carlos is the Wikipedia of Costa Rica – he was extremely informative about the culture, geography, history, politics, etc. He educated us on the way to Tortuguero Canal while our driver Eric kept a watchful eye out for wildlife, pulling over and pointing out sloths and iguanas along the way.
Carlos captained the boat in the canal and he and Juan Carlos and Eric spotted sloths, caymans, iguanas, howler monkeys and many birds. Carlos maneuvered the boat so that all passengers got a good view of the animals.
We learned about fruits and bananas at a fruit stand and plantation before heading down to Cahuita National Park. Eric and Juan Carlos accompanied us on a hike where they pointed out raccoons, howler monkeys, capuchins, iguanas, sloths, turtles and a couple of eyelash pit vipers. These tour guides had eagle eyes – there is no way we would have spotted all the wildlife without their assistance. People on our trip had been on other excursions and they agreed that they saw far more animals on this tour than any other.
This is the first review I have ever written. I can’t say enough about the outstanding efforts of Juan Carlos, Eric and Carlos. The tour was definitely worth the money – it was a memorable day in Costa Rica thanks to the guides of RelaxDay!

February 4, 2023

We booked this tour through Viator, operated by Relax Day tours. I could repeat Karen’s comments from January 21, 2023 because that’s exactly how our tour was. Excellent. There were 6 in our group and 4 others from our cruise ship joined us. Juan Carlos provided an excellent experience. We saw more animals on the tour of the canals than in the National park, but Juan Carlos worked hard to find any wildlife for us to look at, including spiders, ant hills, underground beehives and turtles. We did see one sloth there. On the canal ride we saw caimans, sloths, monkeys and several types of birds.
I highly recommend this tour.
The only negative of the trip- we lost a half hour of our tour because 4 people from the cruise line never showed up. Juan Carlos waited for them ( which, if I was running late I would have appreciated) but ultimately we had to start our tour. He was very conscious of the time and making sure we got back to our ship on time for departure.
